Xavier Bensky
Facilitator - Tokyo, Japan
Xavier Bensky holds a B.A. in Japanese from Georgetown University, an M.A. in East Asian Studies from McGill University, and is currently completing his PhD in Japanese Literature at the University of Chicago. Born of French and Australian parents, he is fluent in French as well as Japanese and English.
Xavier has firsthand experience of Japanese corporate culture, having worked at QUICK Corporation in Tokyo as an International Marketing Representative selling information services. He also has extensive experience teaching language. He has taught business English to Japanese at several language schools in Tokyo and the United States, as well as taught Japanese at various universities in the U.S. and Canada. His language teaching has always incorporated the teaching of culture, as the two are inextricably linked. This teaching experience has also given him the opportunity to develop a warm and engaging classroom presence.
Xavier also has been active as an interpreter, with a particular specialty in assisting at business negotiations. This work has given him further exposure to the various potential misunderstandings that occur when North Americans and Japanese work together.
