Xiao-rui Zhang

Xiao Rui is a native of Xian and she holds a degree from Xian Foreign Languages
University. She obtained a master's degree in education (M. Ed) from Temple
University and is currently pursuing her Ed. D (Doctor of Education) there. Her
doctoral dissertation is a longitudinal ethnographic study of Chinese students
in Japan which focuses on Chinese experiences in Japan's social and cultural
context. Her major research interests include multi-cultural communication,
identity construction in the global setting, comparative studies of educational
ideologies and practices, and ethnographic research methodology in social
sciences. She has been giving presentations at conferences such as AAAL
(American Association of Applied Linguistics), JALT (Japan Association of
Language Teachers). Her recent publications are Chugoku de Seiko Suru Jinzai
Management Manual (Human Resource Management Manual for Succeeding in
China) (coauthored), and “Interpreting the Chinese Experience in Japan”
(JALT Conference Proceeding 2003). She has membership in several academic
associations.
Xiao Rui taught at Temple University's Japan campus and several other Japanese universities in Tokyo area for seven years. Her teaching areas included adjunct courses in culture, sociology and psychology; English academic writing; Chinese and Japanese literature and culture and Chinese language. She is now holding a full-time teaching position at Meisei University. Her teaching areas now include intercultural communication, communicative Chinese and English.
