Hideo Yamauchi
Consultant - Illinois, USA

One year after graduating from Keio University's Engineering Department, Hideo Yamauchi came to the United States -- a planned sojourn of 2-3 years that turned into over 30 years residence.

During his time in the United States, he has worked as an engineer at companies in the food, medical products, and machine tool industries, designed machine tools and production equipment, and served as a project manager for factory building and startup projects. Currently as a consultant he works on various projects in the U.S.-Japan interface.

In his work, he has had significant exposure to issues concerning technology transfer and communication between Japanese engineers and American engineers and shop floor workers. He has often served as an interface, helping with not only the engineering issues but also the linguistic, and cultural ones, as well as legal issues concerning patent infringement. He shares this experience in our Effective Communication in the Manufacturing Environment seminar, which is aimed at Japanese engineers and technical staff working in the United States.
