Mutsuyo Okumura

A native of Japan, Mutsuyo studied at the Osaka University of Education and the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Mutsuyo's work experience includes employment in the Asian operations of Scandinavian Airlines and the Pacific Region Headquarters of Federal Express. She has also taught Japanese language and culture at the university level and to business people, and translated and interpreted for business. Additionally, she has published translations of academic books on Japanese linguistics.

Mutsuyo is particularly skilled in explaining subtle nuances of Japanese culture in a way that is relevant to Americans, and in giving practical suggestions for solving cultural dilemmas.

In her work with Japan Intercultural Consulting, Mutsuyo is focused on the automotive industry, and she has facilitated numerous seminars for auto manufacturers and automotive parts suppliers. She has become familiar with the communications issues faced by Americans and Japanese working together in manufacturing and technical environments.

Mutsuyo is a member of the Association for Asian Studies, The Facilitators Association of Japan, and the Japan Association of Translators. She also acts as host for regular meetings in Columbus for Ohio’s independent and in-house Japanese-English translators and interpreters.
