Human Resource Consulting

Japanese companies operating in Europe need human resource policies and programmes that fit the European environment and meet the needs and expectations of European employees. However, these policies and programmes must also be ones that Japanese staff and the head office are comfortable with. Due to the vastly different human resource customs in Japan and the U.S., this gap is often difficult to bridge.

Japan Intercultural Consulting offers human resource consulting that is sensitive to the unique needs of Japanese-owned firms. We strive to offer innovative solutions that combine European practice with approaches that fit well with Japanese corporate values.

We combine knowledge of Japanese human resource practices and organisational behaviour with broad-based experience in all facets of European human resource management. We also draw upon our Japanese language capabilities to communicate effectively with Japanese staff and headquarters in Japan.

Some of the goals we can assist clients with include:

  • Improving the company's ability to recruit and retain high-calibre employees
  • Enhancing employee morale and productivity
  • Improving relations between Japanese and European staff
  • Designing cost-effective human resource management initiatives
  • Creating an environment in which employee lawsuits are less likely to occur
  • Assisting in the integration of acquisitions

Areas in which we can offer guidance include the following:

  • Performance evaluation systems --developing performance evaluation systems and training managers in their proper use.
  • Job descriptions --helping companies develop job descriptions that are accurate and effective.
  • Compensation and benefit programmes --designing total compensation plans that provide realistic rewards and recognition.
  • Employee relations --counselling managers on how to handle specific employee relations issues.
  • Retention programmes -- helping companies identify the factors that promote turnover and develop strategies for minimising them.
